We were tasked with creating the trailer entirely from concept to completion. To do this, we had to take care of all gameplay capture, writing, directing, audio mixing, editing, motion graphics, VO, and overall production polish.

Santa Barbara Games wanted an announcement trailer that was both cinematic, eerie, mysterious, and wouldn't spoil too much of the game while still giving you the overall feel and loop the game contains. For us, this meant crafting a narrative of lore around the woods themselves, hearing the voices of children tell tales of what happens if you get ensnared by the forest, and how to escape. We wanted this to feel like generations had passed as kids grew up and told their kids to avoid getting trapped in those woods, and we wanted the rules they specify to be exactly how you play the game. 

We hired numerous child and teenage actors to fill out the voices of the trailer, and we created in-game voice moments with those actors to help portray what it would feel like in-game to shout to your friends that you plan to distract the monster to give them enough time to escape. We also did this for clarity, to help showcase intentions and the co-op mechanisms the game has.

We also employed full in-game capture across the board, so every shot in the trailer was done in a build of the game running live, with all child characters being controlled by real players. 

We wrapped up the process by creating a custom score, a mix of custom audio design moments integrated with in-game sounds, and an audio mix to help drive the soundscape forward. Combined with our editing, animation, titles, and production polish, we finalized the asset and saw it release to the world in August 2026.
